I am absolutely thrilled to be able to announce our new Quilting Backdrops line of products. Like other In-The-Hoop (ITH) projects, Quilting Backdrops allow embroidery and quilting enthusiasts to combine their love of embroidery, sewing, and quilting to create custom, one-of-a-kind, Quilt-As-You-Go (QAYG) projects. These new designs offer total creative freedom to design, mix and match, and explore the unlimited capabilities found within each Quilting Backdrops design set.
A Note About the Origins of DBJJ’s QAYG Method
There are many QAYG methods. When I refer to Quilt As You Go (QAYG), I am referring to what is commonly referred to as “Quilt As You Go with False Backing.” Using this method, quilt blocks are created with fabric and batting. They are pieced together with a sewing machine, then joined with backing fabric. Once the backing is added, you “stitch in the ditch” and add your binding. I have been using this technique in DBJJ quilt block designs for over a decade.
Getting Started with Quilting Backdrops
Quilting Backdrops serve as background quilting and are primarily intended for a build-your-own, QAYG project, like my other ITH projects. Each QAYG block is an ITH quilt block, featuring machine steps for batting, fabric, and quilting. As with other DBJJ ITH quilts, wall hangings, placemats, and runners, I have designed Quilting Backdrops design files to eliminate bulky batting in the seams.
What’s Included? Every Quilting Backdrops design set includes:
The blocks are designed to fit together perfectly, allowing you to pick a size appropriate for any project. The design files are named according to the finished size of the block.
For quilting motifs that are directional, I have included both horizontal and vertical options for rectangle blocks to avoid upside-down or sideways images in your QAYG project.
The scale of each quilting motif pattern is the same throughout all sizes.
Additionally, I have included “Quilting Only” files to embroider background quilting on various other projects, including allover quilting for smaller projects. These bonus files are only included for motifs that are closed shapes to ensure a nice, finished look for projects. Geometric quilting patterns contain edge runs hidden in the seams when blocks are pieced together. Therefore, the geometric patterns cannot be used alone and the bonus “Quilting Only” files are not included.
