It’s always nice to have a homemade card to give with any gift. The embroidered cards that Designs by Juju create always turn out amazing. I get so many compliments from everyone that sees them. People are always so amazed that you can do embroidery on cards. Embroidered greeting cards can be used for a range of occasions: birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, get well soon, or whatever you’re celebrating. Let’s learn how to make machine embroidery cards.

Supplies

We will need:

  • Design loaded to your embroidery machine; I’m using Celebration Greeting Cards Set1 (DBJJ2788)
  • Watercolor paper cut to 5" x 7" size
  • Colored cardstock cut to 4.75" x 6.75"
  • Prefolded 5" x 7" greeting card
  • A7 envelope (5.25" x 7.25")
  • Thread for your design
  • Spray Adhesive
  • Iron
  • Medium weight fusible cutaway stabilizer
  • Double-sided tape or glue to mount the card together
  • Optional: 70/10 needle, the smaller size works a little better on cardstock, but a 75/11 will also work

Preparation

We will first hoop our stabilizer with the fusible side up. Change to the smaller sized needle in your machine if you’re using one.

Then stitch out the placement stich for the card.

Place the watercolor paper inside the border you just stitched. If you have a small iron that fits in your hoop you can press your cardstock to the fusible stabilizer. If your iron is too big, it’s okay just give the backside of your watercolor paper a small spray of fusible spray and press it in. After we have it stitched out, we will remove it from the hoop and press it all down snuggly. We just want the paper to not shift while we are stitching.

Embroidery

Continue with the steps for your pattern. Feel free to change the colors from what the machine or color chart says. This is you project. Make it coordinate with your wrapping paper or gift that you’re giving.

Continue until the pattern finishes.

Remove your hoop from the machine.

Trim the edges of the cardstock by ¼ of an inch on all four sides. This will now make it 6.5" x 4.5".

Once it’s cut down to size, I like to trim the threads on the back. This helps the glue or tape hold things better.

With your iron, press the stabilizer firmly to the watercolor paper. This makes it a nice solid one piece for our card.

Use glue or tape to fasten the colored cardstock to the folded card. Then use more glue or tape to fasten the embroidered piece to the colored cardstock. Take care to try to ensure an equal border around both the colored cardstock and the embroidered piece.

And then you’re finished! You can address and mail your card or hand deliver it to the lucky recipient. I find that everyone loves receiving an embroidered greeting card.
