Quilting Backdrops™ are designed to serve as background quilting and are primarily intended for a build-your-own, Quilt-As-You-Go (QAYG) project, very similar to our In-the-Hoop (ITH) projects. Let your creativity soar and create your own layouts for quilts, wall hangings, bags, and more!
Unlike our End-to-End Quilting™ designs, each QAYG block is an ITH quilting block, featuring machine steps for your batting, fabric, and quilting. Just like all of our ITH wall hangings, runners, and placemats, these blocks are digitized to eliminate bulky batting in the seams.
Quilting Backdrops are available in the following embroidery machine formats: ART, DST, EXP, JEF, HUS, PES, VIP, VP3 & XXX. Please note, PCS and SEW formats are NOT included.
**We do NOT offer longarm quilting formats nor patterns for hand quilting**
Each set within the Quilting Backdrops series consists of 38 sizes of ITH, QAYG files: square blocks, coordinating 2-inch sashing, and rectangles in 3-, 4-, and 6-inch widths. Quilting Backdrops designs are carefully crafted to enable you to create layouts with blocks that fit together perfectly. With the wide variety of sizes offered, it's easy to pick a size for any project. The scale of the quilting motif pattern is the same throughout all sizes.
Please refer to the accompanying charts/images to see all the file sizes included. The design files are named according to the FINISHED SIZE of the block, not necessarily the hoop in which it fits. For example, 4x4 and 8x8 hoops are not a full 4" or 8"—they measure 100mm (3.93") and 200mm (7.87"), respectively, and therefore are too small for true 4" and 8" squares.
** 4x4 block requires a 5x7 hoop **
** 8x8 block requires a 9.5 x 9.5 hoop **
** 6x6 block requires a true 6x10 hoop (160x260mm) **
The size chart indicates the finished block size, actual file size, and required hoop size. Click the "View Size and Stitch Count" button to see a thumbnail image of every block included.

This is a geometric quilting pattern. There are edge runs in the quilting pattern, but when the blocks are pieced together as instructed, the edge runs will be hidden in the seams and will not show on the quilt top.
BONUS: We have also included 9 sizes of "Hoop Fillers" that fill universal hoops with the geometric quilting pattern. These do not contain the placement and tack down lines for batting and fabric. You can use these files in a variety of ways, like background quilting for other in-the-hoop projects such as mug rugs, coasters, mini quilts, notebook covers, and more!

Our designs are manually digitized and test stitched before release. For best results we recommend stitching our designs unaltered on projects hooped with stabilizer appropriate for the material being used. We cannot guarantee results when our designs have been modified in software or non-traditional hooping methods are used. We highly recommend doing a test stitch on an altered design before putting it on a valuable blank.That being said, we are often asked for a recommendation for embroidery editing software for customizing purposes:
