In The Hoop Nutcracker Tree Skirt Project

Instant heirloom! Create a beautiful Christmas tree skirt that will be a family favorite for years to come! Customize with the fabrics and threads of your choice, arranging the nutcracker themed blocks however you'd like to make a unique project.

4 sizes included: 5x7, 6x10, 8x12, and 150x240mm hoop (slightly smaller 6x10)

Approximate finished sizes:

5x7 - 31" Diameter
150 x 240 hoop (which is slightly smaller than the universal 6x10) - 41.5" Diameter
6x10 - 44.5" Diameter
8x12 - 52" Diameter

Please note: This is a new tree skirt layout! It has two tiers and 21 wedges. It has slightly different finished sizes than our previous releases. The files cannot be interchanged with our three-tier tree skirts.

Requires 42 hoopings. Thirty-two embroidery-only blocks and 10 applique blocks are stitched completely in the hoop, and then joined together with your sewing machine. The backing and optional binding are added with your sewing machine. Our instructions include sewing the backing onto the pieced tree skirt right sides together and inverting the project. Other samples may show a binding around the scalloped edge, which is an intermediate sewing skill NOT required nor included in our directions.

NEEDED SUPPLIES:
- No Show Mesh Cut Away Stabilizer: enough for 42 hoopings
- Batting: Can use a crib to twin size package

- Background Fabric:
5x7 size: Inner Blocks—1 yard; Decorative Outer Blocks—0.75 yard; Pieced Outer Blocks—0.25 yard each of four fabrics
6x10 sizes: Inner Blocks—1.5 yards; Decorative Outer Blocks—1.25 yards; Pieced Outer Blocks—0.5 yard each of four fabrics
8x12 size: Inner Blocks— 1.75 yards; Decorative Outer Blocks—1.25 yards; Pieced Outer Blocks—0.75 yard each of four fabrics

- SF101 interfacing: We recommend adding SF101 to the background fabric of the Decorative Outer Blocks to prevent puckering when stitching out the detailed designs.

- Backing Fabric (5x7 size: 34" x 34"; 6x10 sizes: 49" x 49"; 8x12 size: 55" x 55"; depending on width of fabric, you may need to piece backing.)
- 1” Double Fold Bias Tape: a package of 3 yards is plenty for creating a tie closure.

The Nutcracker themed designs feature multiple color layers of lighter density fill to create a blended, variegated, textured look. When design files are converted to multiple machine formats, the thread colors auto-selected by format may open with weird colors on your machine or in embroidery software. Detailed colorcharts are included in your download to assist you with thread color selection. You do not have to use the exact same brand/thread numbers, but selecting similar shades/tints of the pictured colors is important for the desired effect.
Since the fill has a lighter density, some fabrics may show through the sheer stitching. A light colored solid fabric and matching thread for quilting is recommended for the background of the Nutcracker themed blocks.
