TROUBLESHOOTING OUTLINE WOES

“My outlines are off”. This is one of the most common frustrations I hear, and it was my biggest frustration when I first started machine embroidery. I will preface this troubleshooting note by assuming that the design itself is a well digitized design that has been tested to ensure it is digitized properly. There are many possible reasons for the outline being off.

INADEQUATE STABILIZATION

In my experience, I have found that more often than not, the issue is inadequate stabilization and or loose hooping.  If a project is not properly stabilized, it can and usually will throw off the outline at the end. I LOVE Floriani stabilizers. I just find them superb for all embroidery. RNK Distributing has some great helps on their website to help you know what kind of stabilizer will work best for your project:

INADEQUATE HOOPING

It is always best, when possible, to hoop your project with the stabilizer and not just float the stabilizer underneath. I have often used two sheets of a stabilizer, hooping one, and floating another underneath. This seems to work well.

Your project should be firmly hooped, but not pulling the fabric so as to distort it.  To ensure excellent embroidery on knits, I highly recommend using an iron on stabilizer (Floriani’s is a wonderful one!) which will keep your knit fabric stabile and give you a nice embroidery outcome.

There are many products available on the market as well to assist you with hooping your projects.

MACHINE SETTINGS AND TENSION

Another possibility is that your embroidery machine settings and tension could be off causing distortion of the embroidery design.  Make sure your tensions are working properly to ensure a favorable stitch out of your embroidery design.

RESIZING OR EDITING THE FILE

Lastly, by editing or resizing the machine embroidery designs, especially if you are not familiar with doing it, it can often distort the design putting one frame here, another frame there etc, and pretty soon, your design looks like it was digitized by Picasso. I have seen this before. You are best to work with the files that you purchased. If you must edit them, be sure you are using a good editing program and that you know how to use the embroidery software. Sometimes resizing an embroidery design goes fine, and sometimes it does not.  Designs by JuJu is only responsible for the embroidery files provided at the time of purchase.

THREAD COLORS AND CONVERSION CHARTS

I use a main color palette of Robison Anton Super Brite Polyester thread colors to digitize all of my machine embroidery designs. I created a page with the palette that I use so that you can use it with my .txt color charts for your convenience. This should assist you in matching colors to other brands of thread if you do not use Robison Anton. That palette can be found HERE .

Thread conversion charts for Robison Anton thread available on the web:
